Cute!

That reminds me, I gotta take my kids out to Long Beach soon. Their lives just won't be complete until they see Jake the Alligator Man.

That's really inspiring, in a strange sort of way. Nice shaping.

What are the eyes? Poppy seeds?

Glad you enjoyed the shaped rolls!  The eyes are whole cloves.  We experimented to get the crab shape and found that snipping with scissors works best.  It is just a roll sized piece of punched down dough snipped and bent to get legs and claws- not really sculpted as such. It requires a minimum of handling so the bread remains really nice.

I must confess that my grand-daughter Bronwyn (age 7) made this example; one of six dozen she made for a big seafood cookout.  By the way, Bronwyn is a huge fan of Jake.  I'm glad to report that he is well!

My 3 attempted rolls resembled large weevils which you might find more disturbing.
