Wow, where did the week go... I haven't even posted last week's bake and Wednesday will be this week's!!! Busy times these holidays. We are all baking goodies for the holidays and they are being well received... Our Sisters' bake was Gubana... Barb inspired this one and it reminded us a good deal of the Babkas we baked from ITJB. Here are the pictures... No problems this week... fun conversations and a fun bake. Helen's whole loaves are the lead in picture, and here is her crumb shot.

Very nice, sweet dough that was a hit with everyone who tried it... Very tempting toasted!!!

Here is Barb's crumb...

I can see the similarities... The fillings are marvelous and somewhat different with each different bake... Barb actually stayed true to the recipe and put hazelnuts and all the good stuff in hers... Helen and I improvised with walnuts and other fruits...

This is my crumb... as you can see we have a group of very similar looking breads and I am sure similar tastes... I just know that several days later... ours is great for toast... my husband had peanut butter on his this morning and loves it that way.

A fun day of baking... when we get together... despite the miles between us... we always have a great time and enjoy the exchange of information and experiences... Helen and Barb and I fixed Party Trays and treats to share with neighbors and co-workers and friends.

In a couple of days we will be able "Awaken the Artist Within" while creating sugar cookies... Fun times, Great Sisters and Holiday baking... you have to ask yourself... "Does it get any better than this?"

Happy Baking,

Barbra, Diane, and Helen (in birth order)...

Merry Christmas Everyone.

The lead in picture shows that we baked Nisu plus other breads... Helen's picture leads in with her braided Nisu breads and her Alaskan Sourdough. We had a great time baking these breads and decided that we LOVE the dough from this Finnish Nisu (Nissua) bread... it will be the go to recipe for future sweet breads and cinnamon rolls... in fact, today I am going to make a raisin swirl bread with the same recipe.

Here are our pictures of how this bread came out for us....

These are Helen's braids before baking.

The next picture shows Barb's braids... beautiful... My two sisters are great at braiding bread dough... lovely.

Barb said she was surprised and pleased by the oven spring...

These loaves look great. Good Baking Barb!

And the crumb is nice and spring and beautiful... the bread really tastes good. We all love the taste!

\Below is my crumb, looks a lot like Barb's so I must be doing something right.

My bread is not sitting around like other breads I have baked ... we are feasting on it and looking for more... The recipe we used was from allrecipes.com for Finnish Nisu... check it out, you too will become addicted to this one.

With some sprinkles, this would make a great centerpiece for the Christmas table.

Happy Baking everyone!

that baker's have to EAT their mistakes... I am okay with this one.  I used a chewy roll recipe.. attempting to get those big holes I envy... but "Lucille Ball" was in the kitchen!!!

This looked promising... but the jiggliness was

a scary factor... I knew it would either flatten or stick... welllllll.....

It chose to stick... totally....but the real

funny thing was the bubbles started growing and popping... I had to throw it in the oven to KILL it!

Tastes great... nice and chewy... course had to have some warm.... not much chance of ruining the look of the loaf by cutting too warm...

Never fear the mistakes in life... you learn something from each of them.

Happy Baking, Diane
