best bread in Kansas

If you're ever in northeast Kansas, go to Lawrence (home of the University of Kansas, about midway between Kansas City and Topeka) and visit Wheatfields at 9th and Vermont Streets. They have the best bread I've ever had, baked in a hand-built Spanish-designed oven.

View on the bakery finder.

Wheatfields

More than three years after the initial post, Wheatfields still does it. An excellent place for breakfast, serving a fine cup of coffee and has been mentioned in USA Today as one of the ten best bakeries in the US.
